Shantu Selene LIVE at Rhapsody Isles Sunday, October 12-- 2pm SLT
Join us at Club Rhapsody as the hugely popular Shantu Selene performs live. Singing both his own haunting ballads and some classic standards, Shantu brings a marriage of poetic lyrics, romantic guitar and a hypnotic voice to his Second Life shows, giving Shantu a way to share the joy, sorrow, passion and love that is in his heart with his listeners. And he still loves to sing Elvis. One of the most beautiful islands in Second Life, Rhapsody is the place to be together, love and enjoy each other. Peaceful. Quiet. Beautiful. Romantic.
Drop by Rhapsody Isles before the show and see it all by enjoying a hang glide tour, or hold your lovers hand and take a romantic walking tour around Rhapsody.
Shantu Selene
Shantu Selene (rl Danny Bowman) was flirting with music long before he picked up his first guitar. His mother favored country artists, but Shantu couldn't stop singing Elvis tunes. Even as a child he was arranging, singing into a vacuum cleaner hose to create reverb.Adding the guitar and forming a band at 14 was logical progression of this relationship with music for Shantu. He dated around a bit, playing with many bands throughout high school. He learned from each experience, but always found himself coming back to the songs he'd grown up with.
Through college and military service, his guitar was his best friend and confidant, always by his side. He finally accepted that music was much more than a casual affair for him. It was in his soul, and his guitar was the conduit of its expression.
His engagement came when he joined the award-winning band Windjam as lead guitarist, and began writing original songs for the band to perform. Windjam captivated audiences across the U.S. for ten years before the members parted amicably. Shantu took his guitar to California and delighted fans with his solo performances, and continued to experiment with words, music and arrangements. He left L.A. in 2000, opened his studio near Chicago and made the first recordings of songs that had been playing in his head for so many years. Bringing this marriage of poetic lyrics, romantic guitar and his hypnotic voice to Second Life gives Shantu a way to share the joy, sorrow, passion and love that is in his heart with his listeners. And he still loves to sing Elvis.

The Seven Stages of Second Life
The other evening, wandering the grid while in the fourth stage of grief , I met Charlotte Bartlett a very talented and interesting woman form London, England. We talked about our virtual experiences and she shared her philosophy on the Seven Stages of Second Life:
1. Discovery - Finding out there is a Second Life, just realising you can change your looks, talk to people etc) This holds fast for all virtual platforms.
2. Engagement- Becoming aware of the interface, using it, changing items, purchases, initial social relationships
3. Immersing- Forging friendships, emotional ties to objects, places or people.
4. Emotional Investment- Relationships moving to other than friendship, planning time to be with a person online
5. Skill Learning/Subject Matter - Creation of objects, designing, bringing your individuality to your presence on the platform.
6. Blow Up- Relationship breakdown, broken hearts, deleting work, feeling stressed, overworked, too involved, wanting things to move to RL.
7. Acceptance - stay or leave
And as Charlotte so wisely said:
[14:35] Charlotte Bartlett: if you reach 7 in SL you normally stay lol.
[14:36] Charlotte Bartlett: many flick between stages 3-6 on repeat cycle lol
I think I'm going to stay!
"Botgirl vs. Human Comic in virtual print fromat from Issu.com"
While Twittering this morning, I came across a post form Botgirl's blog. She talked about a widget (for lack of a better word) that allows creation of a digital "book" from any PDF file. What's cool about this FREE publishing tool form Issuu, as Botgirl explains, is that it allows for electronic publishing of anything you would normally print and it can be embedded in your website, blog or even email. Think Second Life rental covenants (lol), clothing catalogues, etc.
